Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website and the kit, including people with low vision, people who use a screen reader or keyboard, and people reading on a small phone at the end of a long day.
The standard we aim for
This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we did
- Text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, a typeface designed for readers with low vision, at a comfortable size with strong colour contrast.
- Every page works with a keyboard, shows a clear focus outline, and starts with a “Skip to main content” link.
- The “Where are you now?” choices are ordinary radio buttons, the questions open and close with the keyboard, and the sample-page viewer can be closed with Escape.
- Pages work with JavaScript switched off, and animation is removed when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Layouts reflow to one column on small screens, and nothing scrolls sideways on a phone.
How we tested it
Every page was tested on 29 September 2026 with automated checks (axe-core against WCAG 2.2 A and AA, and Lighthouse), a keyboard-only walk through every page and every interactive part at desktop and phone widths, and checks with JavaScript off and with reduced motion. Testing was done in Chrome. We haven’t yet tested with every screen reader, browser and device.
Known limits
- The kit’s PDF has fillable fields and clickable contents, but its accessibility tagging hasn’t been independently audited.
- The letters are Word documents and the calculator is an Excel workbook; how well they work with assistive technology depends on the app you open them in.
- The hero illustration is decorative and hidden from screen readers; everything it shows is also written in the text.
